And I'll be gone, gone tonight.

    Thursday, November 28, 2013 7:50 PM

Haha a little late but I'll post on my Youth Leadership Training Camp (YLTC) experience which was from 18-22 November 2013. Deja vu moment because I remember blogging about another camp, either OBS or the horrible JH1 one hmm.

Soooo. It was really fun and something I don't regret going through. Though I did feel homesick like 85% of the time haha but nobody needs to know that. My group was a good group, couldn't ask for a better one: Stickman/Stickmen! Haha the name came about when we were trekking up the mountain and all of us had sticks for support. Funny, to me anyway. My awesome group members are: Jingyi, Gladis, Hui Yu, Julian, Michael, Dat, Victor and Jiuyang :)

Day 1: Played Party Popper (some balloon game) and watched a super old movie called It's A Wonderful Life. Idk if I'm becoming more mature or what but it really impacted me and I learnt a lot (from the whole camp, too). Dinner was Malaysian food (everyday haha) and it was the first thing that made me feel homesick because it was the same kind of food my mum cooks :( Not as nice though :P

Day 2: Main camp to base camp! Where Stickman/Stickmen had our sticks haha. It was superrr tiring especially with the heavy bags with tents and all urgh. But I'm grateful to my groupmates who gave me a helping hand (literally) along the way :') Base camp is Checkpoint 4 aka Kolam Gajah which was this water body with lots of rocks it's so dangerous!! >< We ate a nice dinner and the guides taught us how to cook Coconut Rice and Roasted Curry Chicken which was really good it's indescribable. Yep hot night and didn't bathe.

Day 3: Base camp to summit! Even longer trekking from like 5.30am to 10.30am but the view was reeaallyyy worth it :') Had to ration our water cos we didn't bring enough though >< THERE'S THIS SUPER SCARY PART where it's like an 70-80degree incline (I'm not kidding) for like 100m where we have to like walk + pull ourselves up using a rope WITHOUT A HARNESS which means that if you fall you actually DIEEE omg I was so scared I was gonna give up. I can't imagine doing that. But yeah, it was a day of perseverance and conquering of fears :) I was hungry I risked my embarrassment to eat the instructors' (extremely delicious fried rice) at the summit. After that we went back to base camp which took about 3 hours maybe but it wasn't any easier. I fell down at the rocky area zzz and got lots of blue blacks lol. Cooked a very rushed lunch of instant noodles (8 packs in 15 minutes is a feat in camping conditions okay) then we packed up and headed to main camp!! So happy until I got stung by bee lol yup I suck I know. But again, thank you  to my group mates and guides and instructor who helped me :') MR MUS IS THE BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER OK. So yep base camp to main camp everybody was so tired we didn't care about going down properly (supporting your body weight etc) so at the end of it all our knees were dying lol. And I spammed muscle rub that night.

Day 4: Challenge Village which was easy since everything seems easy after conquering Mount Ophir. Then paintball!! I was so scared though but managed to shoot Shan Jun and get shot by him so yep fulfilling enough :) I still have my bruise after a week ._. Then we had river scrambling which was going up a waterfall. Fun fun fun but extremely colddd water. Anddd my bee sting didn't help me for the whole of today. Kinda regret skipping some stations because of it sigh.

Day 5: Going home!! Yes I was happy but also sad. We had reflections time (like OBS) where I actually really reflected and yep, it was emotional. Also because we will never get to see or know or contact Mr Mus ever again due to MOE policies etc etc. Everyone camwhored before leaving cos we got our phones back yay. (photos on Instagram) Sigh I love and will treasure these memories :')

So yup that's all~ Given the chance, I would not want to go again because it is tiring hahah but I'm glad I did it once in my life. We conquered Mount Ophir, 6th hardest mountain in SEA. #dosomethingcool :)
